The National Transport Authority (NTA) and Longford Sports Partnership have announced details of Bike Week 2023, which runs from Saturday, May 13 to Sunday, May 21.
Among the events planned in Co Longford are a Family Cycle on Sunday, May 14, the Bikers Lunch on Tuesday May 16, and the Royal Canal Greenway Leisure Cycle on May 20.
Bike Week is an annual celebration and promotion of the benefits of cycling with hundreds of events taking place across the country, including family events, heritage cycles, maintenance workshops, and learn-to-cycle events.
All 31 local authority areas are involved in Bike Week with events being organised jointly through the local authorities and local sports partnerships.
Anne Graham, CEO of the NTA said: “The engagement from the local authorities and local sports partnerships has been fantastic again this year and it’s great to see so many events taking place all around the country. There really is something for everyone, from the popular family bike festivals and community cycles, to local heritage and greenway cycles to schools’ events. I’d encourage everybody to get involved.”
Sarah Mulligan, Longford Sports Partnership coordinator with Longford County Council said, “Here in Longford we have a fantastic lineup of events to suit everyone. We have worked hard to ensure we have events open to the public, to school and lots more. Our events this year open to the public are on the Canal on Sunday, May 14 and Saturday, May 20, they run along Longford’s beautiful canal. So come along and enjoy what the Royal Canal has to offer, refreshments will be provided. Book your ticket to ensure your place.
