Dolores Kiernan of the Longford Branch of Mary’s Meals expressed thanks to everyone who attended and helped with the organisation of Family Fun Day.

“Those who promoted the event; Fr McCarthy from Radio Maria and Fr Joseph Uket from St Michael’s Parish.

“Shane Crossan for providing the stage and Kevin Burke for organising the children's events.

“Speakers, including John Pridmore, author of ‘From Gangland to the Promised Land’ and ‘Gangster’s Guide to God’, who gave a rousing talk on how he eventually changed his life from gangster to Mary’s Meals advocate.

“Damien Richardson, a recovered drug addict, now father of 10, who has transformed his life also spoke. He is now helping others who are drug addicts.

“Patricia Friel, National coordinator for Mary’s Meals, explained how €0.93 of every euro donated is entirely spent on the children's feeding system.”

There was great musical entertainment from the Longford Pipe Band, Pascal Flaherty, Tommy Flaherty, Seamus Farrell, James Feeney, Pat Elvis Barlow, Joanne Ross and Brian Ross.

Thanks were also extended to those who donated items, bought raffle tickets and produce from the stalls, First Responder James Quinn, steward Brendan McCormack, Richard Gregg (Vintage Club), Gerry Bratten (refurbished Model T car), volunteers including the Meán Scoil Mhuire crew and Fulton Grant (slush machine).

Dolores concluded, “We hope to make this Fun Day in May our major fundraiser going forward and we ask for more volunteers to help us.”
