A north Longford housing estate is set to undergo a near €5m revitalisation, bringing an end to a decade long wait for works to be carried out.
Government bosses this week gave the €4.9m green light for a major regeneration of Colmcille Terrace in Granard.
The seven figure announcement is to be ring-fenced to address a number of derelict houses on the estate and revamp up to 19 units in total.
It's understood approved housing body Tuath will oversee the project with works set to get underway next month.
Longford County Council Cathaoirleach Cllr Turlough McGovern said the announcement was one which had been a long time coming for the area.
"Residents on the estate have been made to wait a long time for this day, but now that day has finally arrived and I look forward to work commencing on the estate in the very near future,” he said.
Local Cllr PJ Reilly, who tabled a motion calling for works to be carried out ten years ago, said the news would breathe new life into the locality.
“Local residents have been waiting so long for this and it (funding) will enhance the whole area for years to come,” he said.
