Man arrested in Longford and behind alleged €300k theft charges sent forward for trial

The Lithuanian national charged with handling and possessing stolen property at various commercial and residential properties in Granard, Edgeworthstown and Dublin was handed the Book of Evidence against him at Longford District Court.

Andrius Parfionovas (39), 34 Oldbridge Park, Griffeen Valley, Lucan, Dublin, originally came before Judge Bernadette Owens charged in connection with the alleged possession of €300,000 of stolen property that was recovered in Garda raids on November 8, 2022.

They included 14 outboard Yamaha engines, 14 Hummingbird fish finders, four marine radios, four propellers, eight GPS systems, two wave boards, and £3,115 in cash, amounting to a total of £48,000.

Those items were allegedly stolen from a house in Omagh, Tyrone shortly before the accused was arrested by Gardaí at a property in Granard, Longford.

Mr Parfionovas was further charged with handling a stolen Renault Master Van valued at €20,000 which had been fitted with false plates after it was allegedly stolen from a property at Edenderry, Offaly on July 25.

The defendant is also charged with the illegal possession of a Garda uniform at a City West storage lock up and possession of a GPS signal blocker, described in the charges as an item used for burglary, at a commercial premises in Lacken, Edgeworthstown.

Garda Arron Duffy gave evidence to Judge Owens of serving the Book of Evidence on the defendant on the day of the court sitting, There are a total of nine charges in the book. Inspector Paddy McGirl said the State was looking to have the matter returned for trial at the next sitting of Longford Circuit Criminal Court on May 9.

Solicitor Brid Mimnagh asked for legal aid for one senior and one junior council and for a certificate to translate the Book of Evidence into Lithuanian.

Judge Owens issued an alibi warning and, noting there was no application for bail, remanded the defendant in custody to appear before the Circuit Court on May 9.
