'One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest' took the top award as Mostrim GAA's fundraiser “Goes To Hollywood” entertained huge crowds on Saturday night.
Club spokesperson, Laura Doyle, said the event exceeded expectations: “It was a fantastic night, it really was a huge success.”
Large numbers turned out for the entertainment extravaganza. The night was the culmination of months of preparation by almost 100 club members and friends. The seven professionally produced movies were screened, much to the delight of the audience.
The evening was presented in association with Lip Sync Battles Ireland and featured the movies “Derry Girls”, family favourite “Sister Act”, the award winning “The Banshees of Inisherin”, “Man about Dog” and others.
Hosted by Jimmy Connell, aka Jimmy Jests, the compeer was commended for putting on a brilliant show: “He's a natural. He was born to do it. He made it a very enjoyable night for everyone,” Laura said of the MC.
The organisers were overwhelmed by the public support: “This was the biggest fundraising effort the Club has ever undertaken and the entire community got behind the venture with several mini fundraisers such as duck racing, hot waxing and Bingo Lingo to name just a few.”
There was a note of sadness with the passing of club stalwart Philomena Donoghue: “There was a fabulous tribute paid to Mrs D,” Laura told, “There was a video featuring pictures of her at matches and volunteering. It was lovely.
“It was a fantastic weekend for the club. The community spirit on Saturday night was fantastic.
“On Sunday the club was represented so well at Mrs D's funeral. I am sure she would be so proud of the love and respect the club showed her. It was a brilliant, but sad weekend.”
The money raised will help develop the facilities at C&D Hugh Devine Park so that the footballers, hurlers, ladies footballers and G4M&Os that avail of the facilities can thrive into the future.
The awards part of the evening provided great entertainment, with the top award going to One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest.
There were several other Golden Statue awards handed out by sporting legend Liam Tierney, renowned author and poet Pauline Flood and Cathaoirleach of Longford County Council Turlough McGovern.
