Cllr Peggy Nolan
Fine Gael councillor Peggy Nolan has said she will “let the people decide” over the performance of Health Minister Simon Donnelly as the county's ongoing Midoc fallout resurfaced again last week.
The long serving local politician said despite reports to the contrary, pledges from the HSE to appoint a new and permanent provider to run an out of hours GP service, had yet to be signed off on.
It was anticipated a new service provider would be in place by January 15 in a move the Longford town based politician insisted was still not fully agreed on.
“The Minister has deemed it appropriate to tell us, myself and Senator (Micheal) Carrigy that he doesn't have a vacant spot in his diary to meet with us,” she said.
“No more than the roads and the lives that could be lost, this is a definite where lives are in danger.”
“There is all this talk about the number of people in A&E's around this country and the crisis that our health system is under, but Longford is more than capable of delivering a service if it is properly funded.
“I will let the people decide (on Health Minister) but I won't give up,” Cllr Nolan concluded.
