Fianna Fáil Cllr Seamus Butler
CCTV footage taken from close to the scene of last weekend's latest incident of illegal dumping could bring its perpetrators to justice.
Fianna Fáil Cllr Seamus Butler (inset) made the admission after the Leader revealed how one of Longford's most popular recycling facilities had once again fallen foul to fly tipping.
The long serving local councillor, who has spoken out previously on the need for tougher action to combat those caught in the act of such activity, said last weekend's incident was nothing short of reprehensible.
“The condition of the bottle bank at the Tesco car park is an absolute disgrace,” he stormed.
Cllr Butler said the people behind last weekend's incident were not reflective of the vast majority of civic minded people who routinely avail of the county town's bring bank amenities.
And, in a thinly veiled swipe at those responsible, Cllr Butler said he would be pressing for swift and decisive action to be taken.
“I will urge the council environment section to use the CCTV system to bring the perpetrators to justice,” he said.
“Anybody that just dumps their rubbish should be ashamed of themselves.”
