A Co Galway firm has been fined for a road traffic offence after a former employee mistakenly believed he had insurance cover in place while at the wheel.

Marquee Marvel Ltd, of Garrycloone House, Ballygaddy Road, Tuam, Galway was charged after an incident at Toneywarden, Granard, Longford on July 23 2018. That coincided in the company being handed a Section 56 no insurance charge when it transpired the driver of the vehicle should not have been driving.

Solicitor John Quinn said the company had full insurance on the vehicle. He said the driver mistakenly believed he had a European licence in place and had since left the jurisdiction.

Judge Conal Gibbons, as a consequence, imposed a €150 fine and gave the company three months to pay.
