File photo: Election posters along the Battery Road, Longford town
Ballymahon Tidy Towns are requesting that candidates running in the upcoming General Election refrain from erecting posters within the 60km per hour speed limit signs in Ballymahon town.
Via their social media platform the Tidy Towns committee stated: “In common with many towns and villages around the country, Ballymahon Tidy Towns respectfully requests that candidates in the upcoming election would once again refrain from putting up election posters within the 60kph speed limit signs in Ballymahon Town.
“While we don't want to interfere in the democratic process, we do want our streetscape to be as visually neat and appealing as possible, and free of the cable ties that are all too often left behind after posters are removed.

“We are a voluntary group without political affiliations, and we will be sending this same message to all candidates who have declared their intention to run. Our request for candidates to exercise similar restraint during the local/European elections earlier this year was almost totally respected, and we sincerely hope for a repeat performance this time around, too. Wishing every candidate the very best in the busy campaigning days to come.”
