Mercy Ballymahon won the North Leinster Post-Primary Schools Senior Boys ‘C’ football title and thus advance to the Leinster Final.
Mercy Ballymahon Secondary School . . . 3-13
Ardee Community College (Louth) . . . . 3-8
Ballymahon SS had been ahead in this game at the St Loman’s GAA grounds in Mullingar on Monday until midway through the second half when Louth opponents Ardee CC first drew level and then moments later took the lead with a goal from Evan Malone.
Suddenly Ballymahon SS were chasing the game as Ardee then forced Eanna McGrath into two fines saves. The south Longford school fought hard to get back on level terms by the 55th minute and were ahead again soon after with a terrific point from Dylan Farrell.
They stretched the lead to four when substitute Dylan Coady found the back of the net with a superb strike. Oran Kenny then converted a free to put five between the sides.
Ardee scored a late penalty but Ballymahon SS clinched a great victory with a goal from Dylan Farrell who clocked up the tremendous total of 2-6.
