What a wonderful achievement and a fantastic feeling for the all conquering Longford Slashers senior ladies football squad who were crowned the currentaccount.ie All-Ireland Club Intermediate champions at Croke Park on Saturday last.
Tipperary opponents Mullinahone were no match for the superior Slashers side who scored a most emphatic 4-11 to 2-8 success, much to the sheer delight of their vociferous supporters who certainly made their presence felt at GAA headquarters.
History was made as Slashers became the first gaelic football team from Longford to win an All-Ireland club title and dynamic midfielder Grace Shannon was a deserving winner of the player of the match award in the final.
It was a terrific team effort by the Longford and Leinster champions and now the All-Ireland champions as a tremendous treble was completed.
The electric homecoming on Saturday night was a scene of pure pride and joy and the super Slashers ladies have brought great honour to the county.
