The spotlight will be shining on the Longford Slashers senior ladies team at Croke Park on Saturday.

While the big match against the Tipperary and Munster Intermediate champions Mullinahone will be broadcast live on TG4, the Slashers supporters will be heading to Dublin in very large  numbers for this major occasion.

There is a  great buzz  amid the sky-blue colours around the town in the build-up to the currentaccount.ie sponsored LGFA All-Ireland Club Intermediate Championship Final (throw-in 3pm) and Slashers manager Conor Clarke is quietly confident.

“Their confidence as a group has grown. Muscle memory has developed through their experience. Every time questions have been asked of them, they have answered,” he commented.

The captain of the Slashers team is 27-year-old Aisling Cosgrove, one of four girls from Killashee who will feature in the eagerly awaited final at Croke Park.

“A lot of the girls are very versatile, with no exact roles. Everyone is comfortable on the ball. There is no dilly dallying with the ball, we move it quickly,” she explained.

Whatever happens on Saturday, this has been a magnificent year for the Longford Slashers ladies who completed the county senior championship four-in-a-row and who then went on to win the Leinster intermediate title.

There are high hopes that Slashers can cross the final hurdle in the chase for All-Ireland glory  with their scoring power such a key element in this superb success story.

The second game on the programme at Croke Park on Saturday next is the currentaccount.ie Ladies Football All-Ireland Club Senior Championship Final between Donaghmoyne (Monaghan) and Kilkerrin-Clonberne (Galway), throw-in 5pm.
