St Mel's College U-16 hurling squad
After a disappointing start to their Leinster campaign, St Mel’s College U-16 hurlers have shown outstanding resilience and determination to book their place in the North Leinster final at Glennon Brothers Pearse Park next Tuesday, throw-in 12 noon.
The journey began with a heavy defeat in their opening group match against the combined talent of the two Granard Secondary Schools, Cnoc Mhuire and Ardscoil Phadraig.
St Mel’s responded in impressive fashion, with a strong performance in their remaining group game, securing qualification for the knockout stages and proving their ability to bounce back as a team.
In the quarter-final, the team faced a tough away test against a strong Offaly side, Oaklands Community College. Some fantastic individual performances and an impressive overall team display ensured the players delivered a superb performance to claim a well-deserved victory.
Momentum continued into the semi-final, where the team produced another outstanding display to overcome St Joseph’s Drogheda.
A hat-trick from Conor Spollen ensured the win for St Mel’s to confirm their place in the North Leinster final and capped off a memorable run of performances.
The boys have been training hard, relishing the opportunity to face familiar opponents in Granard once more, with the team determined to turn an earlier defeat into a victory.
All Students and Staff in St Mel’s have shown great support to the team along their journey.
