Ballymahon GAA Club Appeal For Support: As you may be aware, Ballymahon GAA Club have commenced major development works at Leo Casey Park, in the first significant upgrade to our grounds in over two decades.
The first phase started in earnest in 2024 with the erection of new match-standard LED floodlights, which has transformed the quality, and safety, of our training sessions. For the first time ever, we are now capable of playing host to evening games year-round.
The second phase has now commenced, which consists of the erection of a new LED digital scoreboard, construction of a lighted community walkway around the entire pitch and the enclosure of the playing field by top-quality galvanised post and weldmesh panel fencing.
The old concrete fence posts have served us well for 40 years, but as any of you who have been at a game in recent times can attest to, they are in a bad state of repair and are dangerous in many parts.
This part of the project has come at no little cost and in order to defray a portion of this we are appealing to you, our current and former members and players, to consider supporting this development.
We are commissioning sponsorship plaques to be placed on each fence post, please see example in picture attached
You/your family can elect to sponsor a plaque yourself or perhaps remember a loved one who is no longer with us that had a connection with the club.
These can be purchased at a cost of €100 each and will be a permanent reminder of your generous contribution towards bettering our facilities and enhancing our community.
We would be delighted to hear from you should you be interested in supporting this initiative.
Please be advised that the fence posts are limited in number and therefore available plaques will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
To order a plaque and place your wording, please contact Tommy Flynn at secretary.ballymahon.longford@gaa.ie before 31st January 2026.
National School Christmas Raffle: St Matthew's national school would like to thank everyone for the success of the Christmas Raffle 2025. They are delighted to share that the Christmas Raffle raised an incredible €10,000. This fundraiser was a huge success, and it truly would not have been possible without the amazing support of our local businesses, parents, families, and the wider Ballymahon community who got behind us and bought tickets.
A heartfelt thank you to our fantastic Parents Association committee. Everything ran so smoothly from start to finish, and it genuinely couldn’t have gone better. Your hard work, organisation, and teamwork made all the difference.
Special thanks also to Ms. Hanly, Ms. Rawle, and the Student Council for selling tickets on behalf of the Parents Association — your support and enthusiasm were greatly appreciated.
They are really looking forward to purchasing new equipment for the school in early 2026, and will keep everyone updated on exactly how your generosity is being invested for the benefit of our children.
Every year they ask, and every year our community steps up. This year more than ever, it is so important to support local and shop local whenever possible. We rely on these wonderful businesses each year, and they are always more than willing to help our school. Supporting them in return strengthens our whole community and benefits everyone.
The success of this raffle is a true reflection of the strong bond between St. Matthew’s National School and the Ballymahon community.
Thank you once again for your continued support, and we wish you all a very happy and peaceful Christmas - St. Matthew’s Parents Association
Sympathy: The club would like to offer sympathies to the O’Donovan family, Clane and formerly The Hill, Ballymahon, on the passing of Donal, who was a former Club Treasurer. May he rest in peace. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family during this sad time.
