For the second year in succession, the title holders Clonguish will meet Ballymahon/Kenagh in the U-21 ‘A’ Football Championship Final in the battle for the Kevin Hughes Memorial Cup.
The county final in this grade is down for decision at Glennon Brothers Pearse Park on Sunday (throw-in 2.30pm) while the curtain-raiser is the clash of Ardagh Moydow and Northern Gaels in the U-21 ‘C’ Football Final with the action starting at 12.30pm.
Although the Ballymahon/Kenagh amalgamation almost caused a major upset in losing out by just a couple of points in last year’s ‘A’ decider with the impressive Josh Kelly clocking up 1-5, the chances of a repeat display is a very difficult task.
Fielding the vast majority of their senior team with Matthew Carey, Michael Flynn and the Flynn cousins Andrew and Matthew the main men, Clonguish will be extremely hard stopped in their quest to retain the U-21 ‘A’ title for a 4-in-a-row triumph.
Prediction: Clonguish
Longford Slashers hurlers in Leinster action
The Longford senior hurling champions Slashers are in Leinster action on Saturday when they take on Aughrim (Wicklow) in the semi-final of the Special Junior competition at Glennon Brothers Pearse Park, throw-in 1.30pm.
Slashers required a replay to eventually beat Wolfe Tones Mostrim in the county title decider and would appear to be facing another tough test against Aughrim.
