The Longford Slashers squad celebrate their slender victory over St Vincent’s in the U-14 Football League Division 1 Final at the Monaduff grounds, Drumlish on Wednesday evening

Setanta Smith was the star of the show as Longford Slashers pipped St Vincent’s by a single point in a thrilling U-14 ‘A’ Football League Final at the Monaduff grounds in Drumlish on Wednesday evening.

Longford Slashers . . . 4-12 St Vincent’s . . . 6-5

Son of former Slashers star Paul Smith, there was just no stopping Setanta who clocked up the impressive tally of 2-7 while particularly outstanding for the gallant losers was Fionn McCormack Crowe who registered the fabulous total of 5-3.

Slashers appeared to be cruising to a comfortable victory when they built up a commanding 11 points lead at one stage of this highly entertaining encounter but the Drumlish/Ballinamuck boys staged a terrific comeback to take the lead by the minimum of margins.

The ding-dong battle continued right to the very end with a Setanta Smith goal clinching the U-14 League Division 1 title for Slashers.
