Wicklow have 5 games played after the rearranged fixture against promoted Wexford last weekend
Unless some other results elsewhere go their way in the remaining fixtures, Longford will be playing Division 4 league football again next season and the general opinion is that is probably the best outcome during the current rebuilding process which is going to take time!
Consecutive wins at home to Waterford and away to London will have given the players a badly needed lift and another boost will hopefully materialise at Netwatch Cullen Park on Saturday evening (throw-in 5.30pm) against a Carlow side who are coached by former Roscommon goalkeeper Shane Curran.
While Carlow made a bright start to their league campaign with a draw at home to Tipperary, followed by a comfortable 2-15 to 0-12 win over Waterford in Dungarvan, they have lost their last three fixtures against the three main contenders for the league title - Wexford (2-12 to 0-9), Limerick (0-13 to 1-17) and Wicklow (2-18 to 2-14).
Unbeaten Wexford clinched promotion with a fairly emphatic win over Wicklow last weekend and Limerick will also end up in Division 3 next season if they succeed in winning their remaining fixtures against Wicklow (away) and Waterford (home).
Wicklow are also still in the mix for the other promotion place and while Longford can possibly keep their slim hopes alive with a win over Carlow, their much inferior scores difference has hampered what appears to be a lost cause in the league.
Building momentum for the Leinster Championship first round clash at home to Wicklow on April 6 is the focus at the moment for the manager Mike Solan but Carlow could be a tough nut to crack at Cullen Park.
