With nothing but pride at stake after missing out on a place in the already decided semi-finals, the Longford ladies football squad wrapped up their National League Division 4 campaign with a defeat against Wicklow in Aughrim on Sunday.

While the home county ran out comfortable winners in the finish, the narrow margin of just two points (1-4 to 1-2) separated the sides at the break with Kamille Burke scoring the goal for Longford just before the half-time whistle.

The visitors were second best on the changeover as Wicklow added another 1-7 to their tally.

Longford manager Brian Farrell will now prepare the squad for games against Kilkenny, Carlow and Louth in the Leinster Junior Championship next month and the Ardagh native will be hoping to build on the excellent draw away to last year’s All-Ireland Intermediate champions Leitrim in the league.

The main target for Longford this season is clearly the All-Ireland Junior Championship with a trip to London on the agenda along with other games against Antrim and Carlow in the group stage.

LONGFORD: Siobhan Egan; Emily Reilly, Leanne Keegan, Emma Bleakley; Ella Duggan, Eimear O’Brien, Caoimhe McCormack; Shauna Hagan, Ella O’Reilly; Lauren McGuire (0-2), Katie Crawford, Niamh Brady; Kamille Burke (1-2), Edel Sheedy (0-1), Aisling Cosgrove.

Subs:- Naoise Hourican, Fumni Talabi, Riane McGrath, Katelyn McKeon.
