Longford senior footballers seek first win in Division 4 at home to Waterford on Sunday

Hurlers take on Lancashire in the National League at Pearse Park on Saturday

Longford senior footballers seek first win in Division 4 at home to Waterford on Sunday

New Longford senior football manager Mike Solan is still waiting for his first win and that badly needed result is expected to materialise against bottom of the table Waterford in the Round 4 clash at Glennon Brothers Park Park on Sunday next, throw-in 2pm.

Having said that, it was the Munster football minnows who scored a shock win when the counties clashed in the group stage of  the Tailteann Cup last year and they will be quietly confident of repeating that bad dose.

Longford will need to be very wary of Waterford who produced a strong second half display against Wicklow in Aughrim in closing the gap to just four points and will certainly not fear Longford on the evidence of their poor show at the same venue on Sunday last.

The midlanders trailed by 2-13 to 0-6 at one stage in the second half as Wicklow cruised to a comprehensive victory with the teams set to meet again in the opening round of the Leinster SF Championship at Pearse Park on Sunday April 6th.

While promotion is now a remote possibility, there is a lot of pride at stake for Longford on home ground and a win over Waterford will be a bit of a boost!
