Longford GAA has enjoyed a significant connection with the Sigerson Cup down through the years and the county will be represented in the prestigious university/third level colleges final next Wednesday night.

Goalkeeper Eoin McGuinness (Longford Slashers) and corner-back Bryan Masterson (Abbeylara) started for DCU in the extra-time win (0-14 to 0-10) over Ulster University at Kingspan Breffni Park last night (Thursday) in advancing to meet UCD in the title decider.

Defender Masterson is a regular member of the Longford senior football team and a close contest is in prospect in the eagerly awaited Electric Ireland Sigerson Cup showdown against UCD who defeated TU Dublin in a dramatic penalty shoot-out after the other semi-final finished all square (1-7 to 0-10) after extra-time.
