While Ballymore clubman Derek Fahy will be elected unopposed as the new Longford GAA Chairperson, there are a couple of contests for positions on the 2025 executive at the annual Convention in St Mary’s Parish Hall in Lanesboro this Thursday night, 7.30pm start.

There are three candidates for the post of Vice-Chairperson and all are outgoing officers - notably Chairperson Albert Cooney (Rathcline), Leinster Council representative Damien Edgeworth (St Brigid’s Killashee) and Michael Mulleady (Fr Manning Gaels) who held the position of Planning & Training.

While Gerry Forde (Ardagh Moydow) is vacating the role of PRO after three years at the helm, he is nominated for the two Leinster Council representatives along with outgoing officer Eamon Brennan (Young Grattans) while Eugene Quaine (Carrickedmond) is also in the field for this contest.

The only nominee to take over the Public Relations (PRO) post is Colm Murray (Kenagh) as the former Vice-Chairperson makes his return to the top table.

With Marie O’Reilly Keenan stepping down from the position of Assistant Treasurer, there will be at least one new face on the Longford GAA executive with the election of former CCC Chairperson Ciaran Walsh (St Mary’s Granard).

However, there are no nominations for the onerous task of Treasurer and delegates will have to wait until the first County Board meeting in January in order to appoint a new finances controller. The outgoing officer Eugene Quaine has completed the maximum five year term in this post with the regulation also applying to Albert Cooney and Damien Edgeworth.
