Resilient Granard recovered from the concession of a couple of goals in the second half to earn a draw against Carrickedmond in the Junior ‘B’ Football Championship Final at Glennon Brothers Pearse Park on Saturday.
Carrickedmond . . . 2-6 St Mary’s Granard . . . 0-12
Conor Kelly scored the first goal for Carrick in the early stages of the second half but St Mary’s came storming back to fire over five points in a row through influential substitute Declan Hynes, Conor Mallon and a trio of scores (2 frees) from Daniel Creegan to lead by 0-10 to 1-5.
Then a mistake led directly to the second Carrickedmond goal in the 50th minute when a free from Shane McGoey was fumbled over the line before Fergus Kelly landed the equalising point for St Mary’s.
A point apiece was then exchanged between Conor Kelly and Granard centre-half-back Enda Masterson as the game ended in a draw with the replay fixed for Emmet Park in Killoe on Friday night, throw-in 8pm.
