Amid the mad congestion in a jam packed inter-county schedule is the start of the 2024 Leinster U-20 and Minor (U-17) Football Championships this week.

First into action are the Longford Under 20 squad with Clonguish clubman Kieran Carey back in charge and their opening round fixture is a difficult task against Kildare at the Hawkfield Centre of Excellence in Newbridge this Tuesday night  (March 26) with a 7.30pm throw-in.

The other games in the group stage are both at home (Allen Park Newtownforbes) against Louth on Tuesday April 2 and Offaly on Tuesday April 9 with the top two teams making it through to the knockout stages.

Colmcille native Enda McGahern, a member of the Fr Manning Gaels club, is the new manager of the Longford minor football squad who are pitted in a very tough group with the opening game away to Offaly at the Faithful Fields in Kilcormac on this Wednesday night (March 27), throw-in 7.30pm.

Two home games follow against Dublin on Wednesday April 3 (Allen Park) and Laois on Saturday April 13 (Glennon Brothers Pearse Park) with the top 3 teams in the group qualifying for the knockout stages of the Leinster Under 17 Championship.
