Following their fine win over neighbouring rivals Leitrim in the crunch clash at Glennon Brothers Pearse Park on Sunday last, Longford are now in pole position to make a quick return to Division 3 of the National Football League.

After recovering really well from a bad start in the current NFL campaign, Longford will gain promotion if they succeed in defeating Carlow (home) and Wexford (away) in their remaining fixtures with the added bonus of a Croke Park appearance in the Division 4 title decider on Saturday March 30.

Longford, Leitrim, Wexford and Carlow are deadlocked on six points apiece in the table in a fierce battle for the second promotion spot behind the unbeaten league leaders Laois.

Hurlers in action against Leitrim

While the National Football League takes a break this weekend, the Longford hurlers are facing a very important game in Division 3B against Leitrim at Glennon Brothers Pearse Park on Saturday, throw-in 2pm.

A home win will guarantee Longford at least a semi-final spot and then the possibility of a direct route to the league decider when they face the title favourites Fermanagh at Brewster Park in Enniskillen on Saturday March 16.
