Former Roscommon star Frankie Dolan has been appointed the new manager of the Abbeylara senior squad and is certainly no stranger to Longford club football.
Dolan played a massive part in Ballymahon’s historic first senior football championship success back in 2002, winning the man of the match award after clocking up the tremendous total of 1-8 (5 frees) in the 1-11 to 0-12 win over Clonguish in the county final that attracted a bumper 6,000 attendance.
Fabulous Frankie collected a Connacht SFC medal with Roscommon in 2001 and achieved more glory on the pitch when his native club St Brigid’s Kiltoom won the All-Ireland Club SFC title in 2013.
A first cousin of former St Mel’s College and Westmeath footballer Dessie Dolan, the current Lake County manager, Frankie also has considerable coaching experience as he was in charge of his club St Brigid’s in the recent past.
