While the title holders Longford Slashers are through to the knockout stage of the Droplink Senior Football Championship they were made to work hard for the narrow win over Killoe at Emmet Park on Sunday.

Longford Slashers . . . 0-12  Killoe . . . 1-7

Slashers led by 0-7 to 1-1 at the break with Niamh Brady scoring the goal for Killoe in the closing stages of the first half.

Grace Shannon did not start for last year’s All-Ireland Intermediate Club champions but she was brought on at the beginning of the second half to strengthen the midfield sector.

Determined Killoe showed a lot of character to gradually close the gap and just a single point separated the sides with around five minutes remaining in this tight contest.

The home side, who missed a number of scoring chances throughout the match, had the opportunity to equalise but shot wide and Slashers then launched a slick attack with Kate Shannon shooting over the bar to clinch the slender success.
