One of the key requirements to ensure the county's safe passage into a new post pandemic era is by ensuring adequate supports are put in place for Longford's youth population.
That's according to Ruth McGarry Quinn, the inspirational woman behind Longford's hugely successful Attic House Youth Service.
No stranger to advocating the interests of the county's generation of tomorrow, Ruth said the time for specific emphasis to be placed on Longford's younger populous was now, more important than ever before.
“The development of the Attic House was a direct response to Longford being one of the lowest funded counties for youth work per head per population,” she said.
“While efforts have been made to address this statistic locally, a lot more is required to ensure Longford's young people experience the same level of support as their peers in other countries that are receiving much larger amounts of support.
“Credit has to be given to each local community within Longford who with little or no resources implement youth development structures to support the ever growing needs of the younger generation.
“Post Covid our young people should be a high priority for Government investment.
Away from championing the rights of our young, Ruth is a well respected member of the local business community courtesy of her Torc Café and Foodhall enterprise.
And, in speaking ahead of International Women's Day, Ruth singled out the role her 95-year-old mother and that of a woman who first introduced her to the world of gourmet food.
“To me, it's (International Women's Day) a day to commemorate the achievements and contributions we make every day to society around the world,” she said.
“It's been a very strange time for us all in a lot of different ways.
“I suppose adjusting to what will be the new normal is going to be our next challenge.
“In some ways, I feel I have lost two years of my life so a lot of catch-ups ahead.”
