Plans revealed for nudist holiday camp on banks of canal in Longford
Plans have been revealed for a nudist holiday camp on the banks of the Royal Canal in Longford.
If given the go ahead, 'Camp Bare It All' would be located at a remote part of the canal between Clondra and Ballymahon. It would cover a total of 15 acres.
The woman behind the project, Ivana C Moore said she wanted to bring a more continental style of holiday to Longford.
“We are still too buttoned up in Ireland... literally. I think we need more places to let it all hang out so to speak and express ourselves. ”
The proposed camp would be located in the townland of Buff near Starkers Bog which, according to Ivana, will play a key part of Camp Bare It All.
“Bogs are so good for the skin. We will have special bog holes for peat treatments and then people can bathe in Starkers Lake to get the bits of turf out of the hard to reach places. We are also installing power hoses in bidets to get out the stubborn bits.”
The Society for the Protection of the Farmers Tan have objected to the camp on the grounds that it would threaten the very future of the very traditional tan
Darren Tanner, a spokesperson for the society said, “in Ireland, all you need to expose are your arms, your face and your neck and let them burn to a crisp. Where would we be going getting an all over tan? That is not the traditional way. We'd allow a vest instead of a t-shirt but that's as far as we'd ever go.”
The ISPCA has also raised some concerns about the holiday camp. Local organiser Warren Burrows said that he had concerns about the possible impact on wildlife.
“Rabbits in particular are very shy and reserved animals,” Warren stated. “They are easily shocked and stunned and what would be more shocking and stunning than hundreds of naked Irish people invading their fields. Also there could be some serious dangers from squirrels. They are not the smartest animals and it could get very dangerous when they start collecting nuts for winter.”
Dr Willy Burns from expressed concerns for people's health at the camp stating that the sun burn on sensitive areas that are normally covered would be very high on the odd day the sun would shine in Ireland.
In a statement, the Irish Aviation Society raised a concern about the danger to pilots from the potential blinding glare from the ground from a field of pale skinned people.
Some locals contacted by Longford Live said they had not made their minds up about whether to object to the camp but they said they would certainly be looking into it.
