The Longford ploughing championships made its return to Granard after an 11-year absence.
“Thankfully we have the weather. The people of Granard are honoured to have you here today,” Cllr PJ Reilly said on the day.
“Well done to the committee for organising it.”
Hosted on the land of Patrick Durkin and Sean Donohue across from the GAA grounds, locals gathered in their droves on what was a bright and blustery day.
“I would like to welcome everyone here to Granard. It is a great occasion. I want to thank everyone for coming and participating,” Patrick Durkin said.
During the event, Granard's Matt Connell Jnr won the Junior Loy confined class. Meanwhile, Grace Kearney and Seamus Finnan, both from the Granard area, were named as best dressed lady and gent.
The event also coincided with the 40th anniversary of the death of ploughing enthusiast and Ballinalee native, Liam Kiernan.
Liam passed away at the event on the lands of Patrick Durkin in 1979 and organisers held a commemoration ceremony in his memory, laying a wreath and presenting his children, Anna, Seamus and Breege, with a plaque in his memory.
