Meet the candidate: Granard Municipal District Turlough 'Pott' McGovern (Independent)

Name: Turlough 'Pott' McGovern
Party: Independent
Address: Cartron, Granard, Co Longford
Occupation: Farmer

Why have you decided to run in the Local Elections?
I have decided to run in the Granard Municipal District because I feel it is time for a real change at local level and I am the best man to do it. I would like to represent rural communities within north Longford to ensure that people receive what they are entitled to in all aspects.

Why should people vote for you?
I would ask people to vote for me as I am a well known community representative who has worn the Longford jersey for the GAA and rugby. I have supported many local community groups down through the years through taking part in numerous fundraisers and of course, through my ever-improving MC skills. This is a true reflection of the type of person I am. By supporting me on May 24, you will ensure that a local county councillor with common sense will be present in the Council Chambers to represent your voice. I support the need for appropriate housing, services, supports and facilities for everyone. In addition to this, I recognise the need for continued support for local farmers, rural publicans and small businesses who are struggling in north Longford.

What do you think is lacking in your area and what will you be campaigning for?
Longford is a great county and I am very proud to be born and bred in it. However, it is lacking development investment and youth initiatives as well as weak broadband connections and inadequate water supplies in various areas of north Longford, plus a lack of awareness of elderly and vulnerable people living in isolation.
I will be making my voice heard to secure any/all investment into north Longford to assist the concerns I have raised above and I urge you all to give me the opportunity to do so, by coming out and voting for me, on May 24.
