Cllr John Browne
Husband to Breda and father to four grown-up children, John Browne has had a lifetime involvement with the GAA and is an avid racing fan. He previously worked as a publican and boasts an abundance of financial wisdom.
John was previously elected during the local elections of 2014, where he received one of the seats following the distribution of outgoing town mayor Paul Connell’s votes. He received 831 votes in total.
John describes himself as a people person and remains committed to representing his local community. The practicing accountant is very much aware of the financial difficulties facing families in terms of mortgage debt and aims to secure debt write-down facilities for deserving families to help them regain financial security. Cllr Browne also remains committed to taking steps to curb forced emigration.
John's focus, if elected, will be on the regeneration of Longford town, affordable housing programmes and the installation of modern CCTV cameras. He will also seek investment in rural transport, attempt to combat rural isolation, look at ways to make the internet safer to use and he aims to be an advocate for the prevention of Vulture funds selling out homeowners.
John is a lifetime member of Fine Gael and former treasurer of the Longford/Westmeath constituency.
