Almost 40 candidates have been declared to run in the 2019 local elections in Longford
Nominations have closed for the local elections and Longford now has 39 candidates in the race - 12 in Ballymahon MD, 16 in Longford MD and 11 in Granard MD.
There will be six seats up for grabs in Ballymahon, seven in Longford and five in Granard.
Among the 39 candidates are 16 outgoing county councillors and 23 new candidates.
The 16 Longford candidates are profiled in this week's issue of the Longford Leader. Ballymahon and Granard candidates will be profiled next week.
The election date is May 24 and voters will also be electing EU representatives and voting in a referendum on divorce restrictions.
