It seems like the Maria Edgeworth global acknowledgement is starting to sink in, not just for the county, but in popular culture as well.
Matt Farrell, a volunteer for the Maria Edgeworth Centre, in an interview with the 'Longford Leader' back in October 2025, referred to Maria Edgeworth as the "Mother of the Novel". Despite having themes of modern interest in her work, Edgeworth has yet to cultivate the worldwide attention that her fellow writer, Jane Austen, has acquired. Austen's work has received several adaptations: TV shows, movies, biopics. The two writers corresponded through letters.
However, the Maria Edgeworth Centre is catching the imaginations and fascination of people on a global scale. Would it be hard to believe that even 'Bridgerton' has mentioned it?
