The death occurred peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family and friends on Friday, March 14, 2025 of David Shields, No. 6 Aughafad Heights, Longford Town, Longford. Predeceased by his parents Michael and June Shields. He will be sadly missed by his loving sisters Faustina, Lesleyann and Brenda, Brother Mark, cousins, relatives, good friends and neighbours. May He Rest In Peace.

Niall McCarthy, Forgney, Moyvore, Longford / Youghal, Cork

The death occurred unexpectedly and suddenly passed away at the Regional Hospital Mullingar on Thursday, March 13, 2025 of Niall McCarthy, Forgney, Moyvore, County Longford and formerly of Youghal, County Cork. Niall, truly adored husband of Lorraine, and beloved father of his magnificent daughter Abigail, is tragically missed.

Predeceased by his loving mother Anne. Sadly missed by his father Jerry, brothers Brian, Michael and Peter; and his loving aunts, uncles and cousins. Sadly missed by his father-in-law and mother-in-law Joe and Fidelma Quirke; sisters-in-law Deirdre, Sharon, Belinda, Zita, and Polina; his brothers-in-law John, David, Robert and Peter; his nieces and nephews Eoghan, Molly, Michael, Ella Rose, Ruairi, Ciara, Julianne, Eoin, Madeleine and Stella; and his wonderful friends and neighbours both new and old. May Niall’s gentle, caring and kind soul Rest in Peace.

Niall will repose at Gilsenan's Funeral Home, College Street, Mullingar, Co Westmeath, Ireland, N91 K660 on Tuesday March 18 from 4pm to 6pm followed by Removal to the Cathedral of Christ the King arriving at 6.30pm. Funeral Mass at Cathedral of Christ the King, Mullingar, N91 EF82 on Wednesday, March 19 at 11am. Followed burial at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Forgney Cemetery, Ballymahon, Longford. Michelle Mitchell (née McSkeane), Corncrake Meadows, Abbeyshrule, Longford / Monaghan

The death occurred peacefully after a short illness surrounded by her family on Thursday, March 13, 2025 of Michelle Mitchell (nee McSkeane), Corncrake Meadows, Abbeyshrule, Co Longford and formerly of Ballybay, Co Monaghan. 

Predeceased by her parents Bridie and Jackson and by her mother-in-law Nuala. Michelle will be sadly missed and remembered with love by her family, husband Robert, sons Jack and Ben, sisters Deirdre, Carol Anne, Jacqui and Andrea, brother Tim, father-in-law Jimmy, sisters-in-law Elaine, Caroline, Catriona, Aoife, Joan and Laura, brothers-in-law Dave, Aiden and Pete, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. May she rest in peace.

Reposing in the Church of Our Lady of Lourdes, Abbeyshrule (N91 AE35) on Saturday, March 15 from 4pm concluding with prayers at 6pm. Mass of the Resurrection on Sunday, March 16 at 1pm, interment afterwards in Abbeyshrule cemetery. James (Jim) McGoldrick, Ennybegs, Killoe, Co Longford

The untimely death occurred following a short illness on Tuesday, March 11, 2025 of James (Jim) McGoldrick, Ennybegs, Killoe, Co Longford.  

Predeceased by his father Thomas and father-in-law Denis. Sadly missed by his loving wife Bríd, their sons Denis and Ronan and daughter Darina, cherished grandsons Tadhg and Cian, his mother Nellie, mother-in-law Bridie, brothers Dessie, Aidan and Mark, sisters Ann, Sandra and Sheila, daughter-in-law Gráinne and soon to be daughter-in-law Julie, aunt Conchessa , sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and neighbours. May he rest in peace.

Jim was a generous friend to many and will be greatly missed by those who knew him. Please send prayers and special consideration at this time to his colleagues and the residents of Longford/Westmeath Mental Health Service, the members of Killoe GAA club and the Killoe Men’s Shed, all whose company he greatly enjoyed.

Thomas (Tom) Maguire, Urney, Ballinagh, Cavan

The death occurred peacefully surrounded by his loving family in the wonderful care of the staff of Cavan General Hospital on Sunday, March 16, 2025 of Thomas (Tom) Maguire, Urney, Ballinagh, Cavan. Pre-deceased by his parents Patrick and Posie and his brother Henry. Beloved husband of Margaret and dear father of Adrian (Carol), Ann (Steve), Louise (Ciaran), Regina (Anthony), Pauric (Therese), Mairèad (Damien) and Josephine (Niall).

Reposing at his home on Monday, March 17 from 3pm until 7pm with shuttle bus from Ballinagh community centre, house private at all other times please. Requiem Mass on Tuesday, March 18 at 3pm in St Felim's Church Ballinagh. Interment afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.

The death occurred peacefully surrounded by her loving family in the wonderful care of the staff of Castlemanor, Nursing home on Friday, March 14, 2025 of Clare Donohoe (née Smith), Garrymore, Ballinagh, Cavan. Predeceased by her first husband Paddy O'Shea, son Joe, daughter in law Ann, sisters Bridget and Mary Ann, brothers Phil, Pat, Tommy and Joe.

Sadly missed by her loving husband Seamus, son Michael, daughters, Sheila (Joe), Bridget and Jacinta (Pat), sister Lil, sister-in-law Rosaleen, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces, neighbours, relatives and many friends. May She Rest In Peace.

Reposing at her home on Sunday, March 16 and Monday, March 17. Removal from her home on Tuesday morning, March 18 at 10.40am to St Michael’s Church, Potahee to arrive for Requiem Mass at 11am, interment afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.

The death occurred suddenly in Tenerife, Spain on Thursday, March 6, 2025 of Brian Nally, Balroe, Ballynacargy, Mullingar, Westmeath / Ballynacargy, Westmeath. 

An adored husband, father and grandfather, Brian will be very sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his heartbroken wife Ber, his much loved children Orla, Laura, Emma and Bernard, his adored grandchildren Maia, Amie, Cloe, Jack, Ben, Lily, Aidan, Thomas, Bernard and Laurence, sons-in-law Ronan, Kevin and Gerry, daughter-in-law Alex, relatives and many friends. May Brian Rest In Peace. 

Reposing at his home at Balroe N91 T3YC on Sunday, March 16 from 3pm to 7pm and house private at all other times please. Brian’s Cremation Service will be held on Monday, March 17 in Lakelands Crematorium, Cavan.

Patrick (Pat) McDermott, Cloonkeen, Castlerea, Roscommon

The death occurred peacefully at Fearna Manor Nursing Home Castlerea, surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, March 13, 2025 of Patrick (Pat) McDermott, Cloonkeen, Castlerea, Co Roscommon.  

Predeceased by his infant son Patrick, his parents Patrick and Ellen, and his beloved sister Kate (Flanagan).

Beloved husband of Teresa and loving father of Helen Naughton (Sean, Castlerea), Grace Lyons (Gerry, Castlerea), Teresa Doherty (John-Martin, Donegal), Mary (Vincent, Castlerea), Denis (Barbara, Lanesboro), Michael (Brigid, Foxford), John (Strokestown), and Martin (Mary J, Dublin). Pat will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife, daughters, sons, his adored grandchildren Rebecca, Kevin, Andrew, Daniel, Aoife, Sarah, Dylan, Jason, Helen, Ciaran, Oisin, Emma, Joseph, Noreen, Lily, Harry, Adam, Sadie, Zoe, and Ollie, and his great-grandson Rian. Reposing at McDonagh’s Funeral Home, Castlerea on Monday evening, March 17 from 4pm until 6pm. Funeral arriving at St Patrick’s Church, Castlerea, on Tuesday morning, March 18 for Mass of the Resurrection at 11am. Burial afterwards in St Joseph’s Cemetery.

Sr Dominica (Peggy) O'Reilly, Rathbracken, Granard, Longford / Ballymote, Sligo

The death occurred peacefully, in her 96th year, in West Leaderville, Perth, Australia, in the loving care of St John of God's Convent Sisters and her nephew, Kevin Gallagher on Friday, February 21, 2025 of Sr Dominica (Peggy) O'Reilly, late of Rathbracken, Granard, Co Longford and formerly of St John of God Convent, Dun Bhrid, Ballymote, Sligo. 

Predeceased by her parents, brothers and sisters, most recently her Sister Joan Gallagher, Rathbracken. Peg will be sadly missed by her Brother Tommy O'Reilly (Newry), Sisters Ellen Float (UK), Liz McNerney and Bridie Myericks (USA), nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.

A Memorial Mass will be offered in Peg's memory on March 21 at 7.30pm in St Mary's Church, Granard. Peg will be laid to rest in Perth. May she rest in eternal peace.
