Longford TD Micheál Carrigy has called for a fair distribution of Garda recruits across all counties

The latest Garda allocation has sparked criticism from Longford TD Micheál Carrigy, after the county received just one new recruit from the latest intake of 206 Gardaí.

The Fine Gael deputy said it was “disappointing to see the lack of Garda resources” being allocated to the county, adding that Longford had received no new Garda recruits in the two previous attestations held this year.

Deputy Carrigy added that while it was welcome news that a new Garda had been assigned to Longford in this attestation, the county continued to be “left behind in terms of Garda resources.”

The TD also called on Minister for Justice Jim O’Callaghan to ensure there is an “adequate and fair distribution of Garda numbers across all counties” going forward.
