38 year-old Thomas McGuinness of Galtrimsland, Riverstown, Dundalk County Louth appeared before a special sitting of Longford District Court recently.

Longford Gardaí charged Mr McGuinness with dangerous driving on July 10, at St Mary’s Street, Drumlish. He was further charged with dangerous driving, driving without a license, and no insurance on July 10 in Lisnamuck.

Additional separate charges allege dangerous driving in the locations, Killnashee (Drumlish), Creenagh, Cloonbalt, Cloonmacart (Drumlish) and Longford Road (Drumlish) also on July 10.

Gardaí made an application for McGuinness to be released on his own bond of €3,000. The money was provided in court.

Addressing the defendant, Judge Michael Connellan said, “Obviously there is a strike going on with solicitors hence the reason there are no solicitors here. There is nothing the court can do about that with the ongoing strike and the court appreciates the fact that obviously with each case there will be applications for bail, and there may be objections and so on. We will deal with those on each individual basis. In your case, the Gardaí are agreeable to you getting bail on terms.”

The terms of his bail prohibited him from driving a motor vehicle and required him to stay out of Longford, save for scheduled court appearances

Judge Connellan also stipulated that the defendant be of good behaviour and not commit any offences.

McGuinness was remanded on continuing bail to appear before Longford District Court on September 1.
