Met Éireann delivers the Christmas holiday weather forecast
Met Éireann forecasts that hopes of a white Christmas have faded to grey but it will be very mild meaning Santa, Rudolf and the rest of the reindeers should have a good flight this year albeit he might need the fog lights.
In her latest weather forecast on RTÉ meteorologist Jean Byrne said a high cell over Ireland will bring a settled spell of weather over the next few days.
"It's certainly not going to be a white Christmas this year but a very mild one," she said in her bulletin after the RTÉ news.
The weather forecaster says Monday / Christmas Eve will be misty and mostly cloudy. There will be some patchy light rain at times, mainly in parts of the south and west of the country.
Some good dry periods too, with a few bright or short sunny spells - these best over Ulster. Top temperatures will 9 to 11 C in Leinster.
It will be generally mild and misty, with scattered patches of drizzle and fog as Santa does his Irish stops. He might feel little warm this year as temperatures by dawn will be up to 10 C.
Christmas Day / Tuesday will be very mild, with highs of 11 to 13 C., in moderate southerly breezes, fresh around coasts. It is likely to be rather cloudy and misty overall, but some bright or short sunny spells too and dry apart from well-scattered patches of drizzle and fog.
There's just a risk of a little rain in northwestern coastal parts in the evening. Mild and misty overnight with just scattered patches of drizzle and fog. Lows of 9 or 10 C., in moderate southwest breezes.
Wednesday / St Stephens Day and Thursday will be misty and mostly cloudy days, with some patchy drizzle about, but dry a lot of the time, with a few brighter spells. Mild, with highs of 10 to 12 C., in moderate southerly breezes.
