Longford Voices United (LVU) Gospel Choir, a community based, non-denominational choir, will be spreading plenty of festive cheer over the Christmas period.

You can expect to hear anything from ABBA to Elvis with LVU as they love to sing pop, rock, trad, folk and dixie as well as gospel songs.

LVU Musical Director Bridie Gӧobl explained, “Our aim is to share our music and singing with various communities in an uplifting and entertaining way.”

She added, “Not only do we sing for nursing home residents but we also contribute to historical commemorations and other public events including Longford Summer Festival, Longford Agricultural Show, Christmas Markets, masses in St Mel’s Cathedral, Harvest Services, weddings and funerals.”

LVU rehearsals (refreshments included), take place weekly on a Thursday evening in the Respond Community Building.

Bridie pointed out, “Our extensive repertoire gives us the ability to adapt our programme to any event we are invited to participate in.”

Current members of LVU are Ann O’Hara, Terri Doherty, Breda Browne, Mary Rooney, Nan McGoey, Liz Kane, Barbara Smyth, Marie Mullen, Anne Kenny, Frances Quinn, Mary Farrell, Marian O’Mahoney, Christine Treacy, Judy Mahon, Columba Quinn, Bairbre O’Connell, Helen Devlin, Michelle Sullivan, Lorraine Leenane, Christine McDonagh, Edmund Byrne, Peter Kelly, Ken Shedwell and Bridie Goӧbl (Musical Director).

Anyone, over the age of 18 years, and who has the ability to sing and can commit to attend weekly practices and events, is welcome to join LVU Gospel Choir.

Men are especially welcome as they continue to be under represented. A complete ‘work-out’ is always guaranteed.
