Longford has lots to offer shoppers

As Christmas approaches the importance of supporting local business is being highlighted by Longford Municipal District Cathaoirleach Martin Monaghan.

Cllr Monaghan, who runs a popular butcher shop in Longford town centre, says there is a real festive feel around the county town.

“Things are very good at the minute,” he said, “Business is as good as it has been for a good while. There has been a noticeable pick up in trade as we move closer to Christmas.”

Encouraging shoppers to support Longford businesses this Christmas he continued: “There's a great range on offer in Longford. No matter what you want it can be found in our friendly town. We launched the Christmas lights last weekend, a couple of weeks ago we had the very successful Dead of Night Festival. People know that Longford is a welcoming town with a lot to offer.”

The Longford MD Cathaoirleach highlighted the importance of shopping locally: “I want to take this opportunity to encourage everyone to support our local businesses in Longford during the days and weeks ahead. We have a fantastic range of shops and businesses in Longford, they cater for every age and taste imaginable.”

“There are a large number of clothing shops, and they offer great value for money. I think the quality of the Longford shops is second to none,” Martin said.“By shopping locally, we are supporting local jobs, local businesses and local communities.

“Every €10 spent locally generates almost €50 for Longford. These are the businesses who employ our families, friends and neighbours, and we can all do our part to ensure that these businesses continue to thrive in the future,” Cllr Monaghan said.

The elected representative says the county town has many attractions: “Longford's accessibility is a huge selling point. We have great off street parking and a very condensed town core. There are also lots of on street car parking spacers as well. It is easy to get around, you could walk around the whole town centre in 30 minutes. Everything is there, on your doorstep, all together,” Cllr Monaghan said.

Cllr Monaghan concluded by stating, “I would like to wish everyone in our community of Longford Municipal Area, a very happy Christmas and a prosperous new year. Nollaig Shona daoibh go léir agus beannachtaí an tSéasúir.”
