It may be one of the latest additions to the Government’s blueprint of supporting small businesses, but steadily Longford’s Local Enterprise Office is beginning to make its mark.
Rolled out in May, the offices or LEO’s for short, had been flagged as a “one stop shop” for those looking to start or expand their own business.
Now the newly arranged set-up looks primed for another undertaking, this time with the roll-out of the Government’s new Online Trading Voucher Scheme.
A goal of the National Digital Strategy, the venture aims to get a further 2,000 businesses trading online by the end of 2015.
The Online Trader Voucher Programme spearheaded by the Department of Communications, Energy & Natural Resources in conjunction with Local Enterprise Offices is seen as the best way of achieving this.
It’s expected around 1,000 vouchers will be available for qualifying businesses through the network of 31 Local Enterprise Offices (LEO’s) between now and the end of 2014 with more on offer next year.
Businesses will be able to apply for grants of up to €2,500 as Government leaders allocate €5m for the rollout of the trading online voucher scheme.
The LEO’s were chosen as an ideal partner to deliver the trading online voucher scheme, as they are focused on getting business supports directly into the communities where small businesses operate,” said Head of Local Enterpise Michael Nevin. The Trading Online Vouchers Scheme is a new ‘product’ for these new organisations.
