It was an exciting day last Thursday when the best of Co Longford was to the fore, at probably one of the best venues in the county during Longford Tourism Committee’s AGM.
The launch of a new tourism brochure for the county and launch of the ugradged website www.longfordtourism.ie took place in the beautiful surrounds of the newly refurbished Newcastle House in Ballymahon.
The Tourism Committee includes James Kearney, Micheal Carrigy and Donal MacAnbheatha.
Chairperson Michael Carrigy assured those in attendance that the Canal Walk/ Longford to Clondra was going ahead in the next couple of weeks, while the new walkway of 19km will see Longford meeting up with Clondra.
2,000 copies of the new comprehensive Tourism Brochure have been printed and Cllr Carrigy asked that anyone with new ideas on the brochure should touch base with him, so that changes can be made if necessary.
Also discussed on the day was the suitability of funding for signage on the NRA approach roads into Longford.
There was also a presentation given on the Walking Festival May Bank Holiday Weekend. Throughout the event walks will take place over four different locations including Derrycassson Woods, Edenmore Bog, Newcastle Woods Family treasure hunt, and Clondra canal Walk.
