Longford Town Chamber plan St Patrick’s Festival weekend events

Longford Town Business leaders have issued plea to local retailers, communities and various interest groups to row in behind this year’s three day St Patrick’s Bank Holiday Weekend Festival.

Longford Town Business leaders have issued plea to local retailers, communities and various interest groups to row in behind this year’s three day St Patrick’s Bank Holiday Weekend Festival.

Chamber of Commerce president Seamus Butler led the calls this week for businesses to take part, all of which gets underway on Saturday March 16.

“On that day (Saturday), we want our many retail participants to take part in a shop window competition, which will be accompanied by a special shopping voucher offer.

“We ask everybody to invite their overseas contacts to come to Longford for the weekend to enjoy one of the best provincial parades in Ireland on this most Irish of occasions,” he said.

“We are also running our usual Schools’ colouring competition and there will be free children’s activities on the Market Square after the Parade, in conjunction with the Co Longford Tourism Committee,” he pointed out.

The Festival will draw to a close completed on the Bank Holiday Monday (March 18) by way of a four course lunch in the Black Olive Restaurant, featuring music and readings by local artists and partipcants.

Members of the public are advised to book early, especially for the Literary Lunch on Monday March 18.
