Longford councillor leads calls for Ballycloughan speed study

Paul Ross

Cllr Paul Ross is leading calls for a speeding audit to be carried out in Ballycloughan.

A speeding study needs to be undertaken in the community of Ballycloughan and appropriate traffic calming measures put in place, according to Cllr Paul Ross, who produced a petition of over 70 signatures for area engineer Paul Newell last week.

“This is a very vibrant community on a very busy road,” he said.

Ballycloughan is a straight stretch of road between two 80km speed signs and many cars do not slow down to 60km when they reach the areas, which is of great danger to the residents.

Cllr Ross has called for a proper speed study to be carried out in the interest of public safety.

Mr Newell agreed that the speed study is needed and said that he would set up speed and traffic counters in the area with a view to finding a solution to the speeding issues in Ballycloughan.
