Top quality local talent showcased at Stonepark4Talent in Longford

Rising young star, Alex Sheridan from Longford town, was the overall winner of the Stonepark4Talent show in the Longford Arms Hotel on Saturday night.

The opera singer's win capped a brilliant night that showcased some extraordinary local talent.

The senior section was won by Ballymahon band, The  Styalistics, and they certainly raised the bar very high when they opened the show.

The trio of judges, Kat Mahon, Benny O'Brien and Maureen Dunne, had the most difficult job on the night but equally so, they were hugely impressed by the quality of the acts.

They included  solo artist;  Niamh Sheahan;  classmates Conor McHugh and Tadgh Tiernan; young  Tara Crossan; daughter and father act, Maria and John Gorman; young local rock band, Tornado; Mick Hand; Abby Macko; trad group Unreel; Sarah and Tessa and the brilliant Stonepark Spare Tools.

MC for the night was  Joe Flaherty and he kept proceedings moving along nicely in his own unique style.

It was a wonderful night's entertainment but also a very important fundraiser for Stonepark school. Work is underway on the €2m extension but the money allocated will not cover all works required.

Consequently the school needs to secure a reserve fund and this was the first major event for the enthusiastic fundraising committee.
