President of Ireland, Michael D. Higgins invited representatives of Respond! Housing Association to the Áras in recognition of their Jubilee anniversary celebrations.
Patrick Sherlock, who lives in the Respond! Housing Association development in Townspark, was part of a group of fifty representatives including staff, residents and volunteers from Respond! Housing estates nationally who visited Áras an Uachtaráin in March.
Patrick is one of a group of people who initiated the community planting programme on his estate and is also an active member of Longford Men’s Shed who meet in the Respond! Community Building each Thursday evening.
According to David Parslow, of Respond!: “It is residents like Patrick who make our communities work. With volunteers like Patrick, our estates become communities.”
Respond! Housing Association is Ireland’s leading housing association and has provided more than 5,200 units of accommodation nationwide. The housing charity seeks to create a future for people by alleviating poverty and creating vibrant, socially integrated communities. Respond! does this by providing access to education, childcare, community development programmes, housing and other supports.
