Local talent set to wow the crowd at Hype

Following on from last year’s success, the HypeYouth Festival is returning to the Longford Rugby Club in summer 2013.

Amongst the acts performing at the festival will be Audiopilot, Storyfold and iRadio’s Fergal Darcy, but perhaps the most anticipated acts of the day will be the winners of this year’s Longford Youth (LY) Factor. Lacuna, Emily Doyle and Helen McDermott, who topped the competition this year, will be taking to the stage once more.

Lacuna is made up of Conor MacDermott (17), Jack Gaughan (17), Ray Dolan (17) and Luke Butler (16). The band, who came first in this year’s LY Factor, played their first gig last Halloween. Their first drummer decided to leave the band due to college work, so Lacuna performed one more show with him before welcoming Ray as their official drummer. Frontman Conor says; “We’re hopefully going to begin writing songs, so expect a few originals.” Lacuna are looking forward to Hype, and hope for more similar gigs, as they all love performing.

Emily Doyle came second in this year’s competition, and at a mere 12 years old was the youngest competitor this year. This is a remarkable achievement, not only because of Emily’s age, but also due to the fact that she only started singing at eleven years of age. Emily’s favourite band is One Direction, and during her time on the LY factor, her favourite songs to perform were “Set Fire to the Rain” and “Don’t Stop me Now”. Emily enjoyed taking part in the LY factor, and was very grateful to the “unbelievably brilliant” crew. She is very excited to be performing at Hype saying that “It means a lot more to me than the prize money.”

The Hype Youth Festival is taking place on Saturday May 25th, and if these three acts are anything to go by, those lucky enough to have tickets are in for a real treat.
