Longford Vintage Club got preparations for their annual show off to a flying start last Saturday night with the event’s official launch in the Sin Bin at Longford Rugby Club.
The sponsors for this year’s event are Durkins Jewellers of Main St in Longford, and Andy and Terese Durkin presented a cheque to club chairperson Fergus O’Toole on the night.
The annual vintage show, which will be staged in the grounds of the old Connolly Barracks on June 1, will have something for everyone, with the main attractions set to include vintage cars, tractors and commercial vehicles, a steam engine, stationary engines, autojumble, and a blacksmith’s workshop.
Other activities will include threshing, a bonny baby competition, dog show, amusements and free face-painting for children. There will also be an Eddie Rocket’s food outlet on site.
Approximately 3,000 people attended last year’s event and the organisers are hoping to reach a similar figure again at this year’s show on Sunday, June 1.
“There has been great interest in the show so far and we have a lot of activities planned for this year,” said Miceal Nolan, a committee member of Longford Vintage Club. “The craft area is already booked out and so we’re looking at opening a second area.”
