The 2013 Fleadh Cheoil, Contae Longfoirt looks set to get underway in Ballinalee this coming weekend. The Fleadh will be hosted by the Longford branch of Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann (CCE), a group dedicated to promoting Irish music and culture.
The Fleadh will take place from May 10th to May 12th, and will see competitions and activities for those of all ages and abilities.
At 9.00pm on Friday May 10th, the first competition will get underway. Set Dancing and Rince Foirne competitions for all ages will take place in Scoil Samhann, Ballinalee. At 10pm, the Official Fleadh Opening and Session will begin in Rawle’s Ballinalee.
On Saturday May 11th, doors will open in Scoil Samhann at 1pm for the day’s activities. At 2pm, all competitions for U-8’s and U-10’s will begin. Saturday night will see a session in Farrell’s, Ballinalee beginning at 9.30pm.
On Sunday May 12th, All competitions in Traditional Music, Singing and Cómhrá Gaeilge for U-12, 12-15, 15-18 and O-18 will take place in Scoil Samhann, Ballinalee at 2pm sharp. Doors will open at 1.30pm.
5pm-8pm sees Gig-Rig performances with a variety of dancers and musicians.
To round up the weekend, the Fleadh will come to a close in The Stag’s Head, Ballinalee at 9.30pm. All musicians, dancers and singers are welcome.
Competitors who come in first and second place will advance to the Leinster Fleadh, where the top two will again advance, this time to the All-Ireland Fleadh, taking place this year in Derry.
