From Saturday, September 29 next, well known local artist Colleen Quinn will hold her third Solo Exhibition at the Solas Gallery in Ballinamore. The artist’s exhibitions always provide entertainment and this latest event is certainly no exception. It will be officially launched by Tommy Moran and will continue right through until October 13 next.
The exhibition which is entitled ‘Simple Pleasures’, is just that. Colleen has based her pictures on images drawn from family and friends and on scenarios that make people happy. She has been drawing for a long time, mainly using charcoal. It is seven years ago now since she began using pastels and has been using them ever since.
In her efforts to try different papers for different effects and finding the right materials, Colleen is now really comfortable with her chosen art form and the contents of this latest exhibition - which range from monotone, like ‘the Churn Man’, ‘Busker’ and ‘Wait till I tell Ya a Good One’ to portraits of President Michael D and ‘Reading by the Fire’, a stunningly different view of WB Yeats – epitomise just that. ‘Ready for the Road’ and ‘OL 35’ are also guaranteed to raise a smile on the night and the artist’s portrayals of animals, especially her dogs and those of young children, will definitely set that special tone for this much anticipated exhibition, ‘Simple Pleasures’.
The opening of the exhibition is guaranteed to be a fun and entertaining night out. Music will be provided by Lionadh, while talks, comedy, music and poetry will kick off at around 7:30pm. For more details contact (071) 9644210.
