'I've made friends for life': Voices of Longford enriching the lives of local performers

Voices of Longford are busy with final preparations for their eagerly awaited show 'Hey! Old Friends!' which runs at Backstage Theatre from Thursday, February 26 to Saturday, February 28, curtain up at 8pm

Voices of Longford

Voices of Longford will deliver for an audience, but has given so much to its members since it started in 2025

A creative group can bring out the best in people, giving them a place to express themselves, find like-minded enthusiasts and work towards something together.

Having explored the four visionaries who made Voices of Longford possible, and how London theatres are inspirational, members of the group came to chat about their experiences before the performance at the end of February.

Several members came forward to tell the ‘Longford Leader’ about how this artistic group has brought something enriching to their lives. From making long-lasting friendships to it being a meaningful effort for sentimental intentions, Voices of Longford has given members of the community plenty of joy and hope over these few months since it started in 2025.

Laura Ledwith said: “I love singing and I love music. This group has built up my confidence and I have gained new friends. All the while giving back to the community, in particular, Longford Hospice as they were an important part of my mum’s cancer journey.”

Another member said: “I have an acquired brain injury, which although not obvious to others, has made a massive change to my life. I’ve always loved music and singing, but I have not been able to enjoy either in the way I used to since my illness. Brian and this lovely group have changed that for me. I’ve been made so welcome, I’ve made great friends. I’m learning to find my voice again. Being a part of something that is such fun has boosted my confidence.’

Jemma added: “I got involved in the show as a way to honour my late grandmother, and I’ve made friends for life.”

Edward commented: “Working full-time and being the sole carer for my 90-year-old uncle can be difficult and isolating. My involvement with Voices has given me an avenue for some creative expression, and the opportunity to meet like-minded people. While I personally benefit from the group, it’s gratifying to know that charities benefit also.”
